Presentation: Paul Gellatly, new Director of Horticulture for the Toronto Botanical Garden will be speaking on “My Top 5 Plants for All Seasons”
A passionate, life-long horticulturist, prior to joining the Toronto Botanical Garden, Paul was the Curatorial Gardener for one of Canada’s largest tropical plant collections at the Toronto Zoo. His online garden presence as the “Tattooed Gardener,” reaches 4.7 million people per month. He’s an avid collector of rare and unusual plants in addition to being an experienced hybridizer of daylilies, with 18 registrations with the American Hemerocallis Society.
Previously, as a City of Toronto gardener, with exposure to the plants that thrive in our area, Paul further developed his knowledge and skills. Paul also spent six years at Plant World in its perennial department where he was exposed to a vast selection of perennials as well as native plants. He was also an estate gardener for a Trillium Award-winning garden in Carlisle, Ont., which was an acre of forested property filled with natives and unique plants. Paul’s home garden, which contains an eclectic mixture of plants, is featured in Tara Nolan’s new book, Gardening Your Front Yard: Projects and Ideas for Big and Small Spaces.
With 30 years in every corner of the horticulture industry, and a passion for the lesser known rare and unusual plants, Paul has put together his lists of top 5 plants in various categories. Use the Zoom link for our September meeting (which will be sent to members soon) to find out Paul’s top 5 season extenders, unusual perennials, clematis, peonies and more! Discover the plants you didn’t know you needed until now!
